Laredo, Texas – The City of Laredo delegation began its federal legislative meetings Monday, March 2, 2026 in the nation’s capital, engaging with congressional offices and federal agencies to advance priorities that directly impact the local community, including infrastructure, trade, workforce development, innovation, and public health.

Each year, the City of Laredo travels to Washington, D.C. with a clear and focused objective: to advocate for the community’s needs, strengthen federal partnerships, and pursue funding opportunities that bring resources back to Laredo. Federal decisions made in Washington influence transportation systems, economic development, healthcare access, and border operations. By meeting directly with policymakers and agency leaders, the City works to ensure Laredo’s priorities are understood and considered at the national level.
Led by Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño, members of City Council, and city leadership, the delegation kicked off Day 1 with a strategic briefing alongside our city consultants to align priorities and prepare for impactful federal meetings. The delegation also met with the Federal Railroad Administration to address rail infrastructure planning and freight mobility improvements that support safe and efficient trade operations. Conversations focused on long term strategies that enhance connectivity while maintaining safety and sustainability.
At the National Science Foundation, City leaders explored opportunities that link innovation, research, and workforce training. Discussions highlighted the importance of supporting programs that strengthen higher education partnerships and prepare residents for careers in high demand industries, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields.
In the afternoon, the delegation met with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to discuss federal resources that can support behavioral health services and community based prevention initiatives. The conversation emphasized the importance of accessible mental health programs for families and vulnerable populations.
Additional meetings included engagement with the Office of the United States Trade Representative to discuss trade stability and cross border commerce, as well as with the Federal Highway Administration to explore transportation investments that improve roadway safety, reduce congestion, and support continued regional growth.
The City of Laredo delegation will continue meetings throughout the week to further advance strategic priorities and advocate for federal support that strengthens infrastructure, public services, economic opportunity, and overall community wellbeing.
