Sheriff Cuellar and a Deputy arrived on scene and made contact with the individual’s mother. Sheriff Cuellar immediately went to the porch area, made contact with the male subject, and was able to de-escalate the situation. He spoke with the individual, calmed him down, and ensured he received the help he needed. The man was transported by Angel Care ambulance to Laredo Medical Center for treatment of his injuries and a full medical evaluation.

“Mental health is very important and often overlooked,” stated Sheriff Cuellar. “My office and I are committed to helping everyone, no matter the situation.”

Sheriff Cuellar expressed pride in the Patrol Division for their quick and effective response, as well as appreciation for the hard work his Mental Health Division performs every day. The Mental Health Division makes multiple out-of-town trips daily when there are people in crisis and also remains very proactive by conducting home visits to check on individuals who need their services. He further encouraged the community not to fear reaching out for help during a mental crisis.

“Do not be afraid or worried about getting in trouble when you are experiencing a mental health struggle,” added Sheriff Cuellar. “During any crisis, call 911immediately. My office and I are here for you.”
