City of Laredo Issues Emergency Advisory Notice Regarding Wastewater Incident

LAREDO, TX – The City of Laredo has issued an official Emergency Advisory Notice in response to a wastewater incident currently under investigation. City departments acted promptly upon discovering that oil had entered a portion of the City’s wastewater system and have coordinated with state and federal environmental agencies to contain, remove, and remediate the affected areas.
The City emphasizes that this incident involves only the wastewater system, not the drinking water system. There has been no impact on the safety or quality of the City’s drinking water supply, and there is no anticipated interruption to City water or wastewater services.
City officials have taken appropriate actions to address the environmental impact of the spill and are pursuing all necessary legal measures, including a temporary injunction against the responsible party, to prevent further contamination and ensure accountability for cleanup and mitigation costs.
“We are actively investigating an alleged illegal tap into our wastewater line. We have alerted all the respective agencies. Again, this is a sewer line, not a water line, and we are on-site conducting the proper inspections on the property,” said Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño. “We will keep the public informed as this is a developing situation. The safety of our community is paramount, and we will keep the public informed as more information is shared.”
