Courtesy Fernanda Nuñez,

Laredo, TX – Congressman Henry Cuellar, Ph.D. (TX-28) will host a roundtable discussion on the government shutdown and its impact on South Texas on Monday, October 6, at 10:30 AM CT at Laredo City Hall, 1110 Houston St, Laredo, TX 78040.

Congressman Cuellar will speak on how the shutdown affects local families, federal employees, veterans, farmers, and small businesses, including the potential doubling of health insurance premiums for 113,000 residents in TX-28 if Affordable Care Act tax credits are not extended. He will also address and push back against false narratives about undocumented immigrants receiving federal health benefits.

The roundtable will include community partners and local organizations who support South Texans during this challenging time. Congressman Cuellar will listen to their concerns regarding the challenges facing families, federal employees, veterans, farmers, and small businesses, and discuss steps Congress can take to pass a short-term spending bill and extend health care protections while negotiations continue.
