LAREDO, TX –The City of Laredo Mayor, Dr. Victor D. Trevino, has officially lifted the Boil Water Notice for the entire city of Laredo, marking the city’s ongoing efforts to address its water infrastructure challenges. After days of continuous work and dedication, the City of Laredo, alongside technical experts and regulatory authorities, has ensured that the water is safe for consumption without the need to boil it first, including the areas served by the Jefferson Water Treatment Plant.

Additionally, during Monday’s Special Council Meeting, members of the council approved the contract for Strategic Government Resources (SGR) for their professional executive consulting services, specifically for an Executive Utilities Director and related consulting services, for an amount not to exceed $200,000.00 for a duration of six months. Other details will be determined during the next City Council meeting, scheduled for Monday, October 28th, 2024. Furthermore, the State remains in Laredo to assist the Utilities Department with the door-to-door inspections that are pending.

In response to the Boil Water Notice, the City of Laredo, in collaboration with the State of Texas and Webb County, distributed 124,100 cases of water to the community. This effort included daily drive-thru events, block-walks to residents in areas most affected by the notice, and targeted deliveries to the most vulnerable populations, including the elderly and disabled. These initiatives ensured that every resident had access to safe drinking water during the crisis, highlighting the City’s commitment to public health and community support.

The City is committed to continue its communication efforts related to the ongoing water system improvements as they become available.
