Laredo, Texas – The City of Laredo continues to work diligently to address the current boil water notice and ensure the safety of the community’s water supply. Below is an update on the progress and the actions being taken to restore safe water service as quickly as possible.

Water Treatment Plant Testing: Testing at the City’s water treatment plants continues to show that water quality remains excellent at the plants themselves.

This is a positive indicator that the water leaving the treatment facilities is clean and safe. However, this also suggests that the contamination may be entering the system within the distribution network, which is why crews are aggressively flushing and conducting additional tests throughout the City’s water lines to identify and resolve the issue.
Pressure Planes Review: Staff is carefully reviewing the City’s pressure planes to determine which areas can be safely recommended for release from the boil water notice. This review ensures that water quality meets all safety standards before lifting the advisory in any part of the city. Pressure planes keep the water within specific areas of the system allowing for different areas to be isolated from the others.

Increased Chlorination: In an effort to ensure the entire water system is properly disinfected, the chlorine levels within the system have been increased. This additional measure is being closely monitored to maintain effective disinfection while ensuring the safety of residents. Chlorine is effective at killing pathogens that are found within water systems.

Aggressive Flushing: Flushing operations are continuing aggressively in the affected areas to clear the system of any potential contaminants and ensure the flow of clean, treated water. This step is crucial to remove any residual contamination from the system.

Upcoming Water Testing: The City officials are currently awaiting the results from the latest set of water samples, which should be available later tonight. In addition, another set of samples is being collected today and will be sent for testing early tonight. These tests are critical to confirming that the measures taken over the past 24 hours have been successful in addressing the contamination issue.

The City of Laredo wants to remind all residents that tap water remains safe for all uses except for drinking, cooking, and brushing teeth. Residents may continue to use water for bathing, washing clothes, and cleaning surfaces.

The boil water notice is issued as a precaution due to the potential presence of harmful bacteria that can cause illness if ingested. Activities such as bathing and washing clothes do not pose the same risk because harmful bacteria are not absorbed through the skin or by using water externally.

However, for any activity that involves drinking or consuming water, boiling is necessary to kill potential pathogens and ensure it is safe to ingest.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to fully resolve the issue.
