City of Laredo Alerts the Community on Excessive Rain – Potential Flash Flooding

Courtesy Isabel Sosa,

Laredo, Texas —The City of Laredo is closely monitoring the weather conditions with the National Weather Service regarding the forecasted chances of heavy rain in this area. On Tuesday morning, the Emergency Operations Center met with various stakeholders to learn about the potential risks resulting from this system and placed all procedures in action to prepare local infrastructure, increase safety protocols, and coordinate to ensure the best communication possible among all agencies.

Starting at 7:00 PM and until Thursday afternoon, Laredo and Webb County will be under a FLOOD WATCH. The Laredo region expects rainfall through Thursday, possibly 4 to 6 inches. The excessive runoff may result in flooding of creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

During this event, and to prevent damage to any property, the City of Laredo is requesting the collaboration of the community by taking the following measures:

Place trash and recycling bins inside the property. The potential flooding could cause the bins to wash away on the road and block inlets.
Where possible, do not park in front of inlets or drainage channels.
The community is encouraged to follow all official communication sources to stay informed about potential street closures due to flooding and other notices.

For more information or questions, the community can contact the Call Center at 3-1-1.
