Special Recognitions Awarded During Monday’s City Council Meeting

LAREDO, TX— The City of Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor Treviño and Council awarded several individuals during the City Council meeting held on Monday, October 16, 2023, to a group of Laredoans that have outshined and accomplished very important objectives, while representing Laredo before other cities and organizations. The City of Laredo is pleased to continue presenting these recognitions in honor of the achievements of locals who represent this town through their professional careers and/or extracurricular activities.
Monday’s recipients were as follows:
Giselle Karyme Martinez
The City of Laredo Mayor, Dr. Victor Treviño and Council, recognized Miss Giselle Karyme Martinez for being selected as the National Elite Junior Miss 2023 and National Elite Junior Miss Texas 2023. She was also New York’s Fashion Week (February 8-10, 2023) official model for fashion designer Marc Defang and the Elysian Social Club 2023 Black & White Ball Debutant. Giselle is a sixteen year old Laredoan and is a Junior that attends the Sabas Perez Early College High School where she is pursuing an associates degree in science. She is very involved in several clubs at her school such as being the President of the STEM Club, Treasurer of the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) Dental Club, and is a member of the Junior Achievement of Laredo.
Mr. Donald R. Hale
Also awarded during Monday’s City Council Recognitions was Mr. Donald R. Hale, a life-long martial artist, Black Belt Masters 5 International Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu. Mr. Hale traveled across the U.S. in 2023 competing in the International Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) as a Master 5 Black Belt in Gi and NoGi. He most recently competed in Kansas City, Chicago, Indianapolis, and Phoenix, Arizona. Mr. Donald R. Hale is currently ranked 12th in the world in NoGi and 52nd in Gi as Masters 5 Black Belt. Way to represent Laredo!
Mayor Dr. Victor Treviño and Council proudly recognized the following employees for their “Milestone” years of Service with the City of Laredo. Juan M. Gonzalez (25 Years-Parks), Elena S. Sanchez (25 Years-Health), Miguel Ramirez (30 Years-Engineering), Victor Vasquez (30 Years-Public Works), Cynthia Vasquez (37 Years-Police Department). Congratulations to all!!
Ms. Ana Reyna Arzarte
Ms. Ana Reyna Arzarte is an employee for the City of Laredo Convention & Visitors Bureau Department. She recently just earned her Texas Destination Marketer (TDM) Designation certification from the Texas Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus. Congratulations on a job well done!
