LAREDO, Texas— The City of Laredo held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, February 24, 2023, to announce the completion of the FAST Lanes Relocation Project. This project has been years in the making, since November 2016, when the City of Laredo first submitted a formal proposal letter under CBP’s Donation Acceptance Program (DAP) for infrastructure improvements to reduce congestion at the World Trade Bridge.
The Free and Secure Trade (FAST) program is a commercial clearance program for known low-risk shipments entering the U.S. from Canada and Mexico.
These new lanes reduce the wait time for truck drivers from 30 to 5 minutes and will also alleviate congestion by facilitating the passage of commercial trucks through both FAST and non-FAST traffic lanes at the port-of-entry. The City of Laredo outfitted the lanes with the necessary infrastructure and technology.
“As International Trade continues to grow, so does the need for Laredo to adapt to meet these market conditions,” said Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño. “As the #1 Land Port in the Americas, strategies and programs are essential to improve efficiency and customer service. The 4 FAST Lanes program increases commercial crossings and traffic flow for truck drivers who are enrolled in the “FAST Program”. This program will reduce congestion and expedite safe and secure international trade.
I look forward to continuing our great partnership and relationship between the City of Laredo and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.”
