(Laredo, Texas)-The United High School Chess Team competed in the 2022 National High School Championship in Memphis, Tennessee. The Chess Team worked very hard fundraising and practicing all year to attend the prestigious event.

The United High School Chess Team and their sponsor Lucy K. Gutierrez would like to thank United High School principal Jessica Salazar, and the faculty and staff for their support this past academic school year. They would also like to thank the Chess parents and community. Without their help, they would not have met their goal of attending the tournament.

The team would also like to thank UISD Superintendent David Gonzalez for his continued support throughout the years, and the UISD School Board, especially Mr. Javier Montemayor, Jr. District 5, for supporting the Chess Team with Trophies for several years when the team hosted the Regional VII Tournaments as well as his support for their trips to Nationals.

They also want to recognize Mr. Juan Roberto Ramirez, District 6 for his continued support in assisting the team with funding for travel before the pandemic.

Mr. Samuel Flores, UISD Comptroller, also assisted the chess members with money for meals. The team would like to thank the District for allowing them to represent UISD at Regional, State, and National Level Competitions.
