Laredo, TX (Webb County) –In two separate incidents, Webb County Sheriff’s Office correctional officers intercepted small amounts of cocaine and crack cocaine intended to make its way into the Webb County Jail.

In the first incident, during intake procedures on Arturo Treviño, Jr, 40, who was initially brought in on charges of making a false report to a police officer, correctional officers noticed a small opening in his facemask and later discovered a small plastic baggie with a white rocky substance.

Treviño attempted to swallow it, but the baggie fell out of his mouth. He was additionally charged with prohibited substance in a correctional facility. His total bond on both charges was set at $8,000 and he remains at the Webb County Jail.

In the second incident, during procedures on Abel Adrian Guzman, 25, correctional officers discovered a syringe, the bottom part of an aluminum can, and a white powdery substance later identified as crack cocaine.

He was initially brought in on three different charges, including warrants from the 49th District Court for evading arrest detention with vehicle, evading arrest detention, and possession of a controlled substance. Guzman is pending additional charges and he remains at the Webb County Jail.

“It’s unfortunate the distance these suspects are trying to go to satisfy their needs and the needs of other inmates. I congratulate our correctional officers for their fast thinking and for thwarting a situation that could have gone bad. The training our correctional officers are constantly receiving is paying strong dividends,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar.

“I strongly encourage the public to report anyone who you know may be attempting to smuggle drugs into the jail by calling our hotline at 956-415-BUST (2878). You may be eligible for a cash reward.”
