COVID-19 Preventives During the End of School Year Festivities

LAREDO, Texas – With Memorial Day weekend around the corner and graduation at an arm’s reach, it is important for our community to remember to stay safe and combat COVID-19.

The City of Laredo Health Department would like to congratulate the class of 2022 for their accomplishments.

We remind the community that although the community risk level of COVID-19 is low, the virus is still present, and protecting yourself is important. In recent weeks the nation has seen an uptick in COVID cases in many states, including Texas.

With summer festivities around the corner, we may expect a summer surge, which can be preventable. We encourage individuals to stay home if sick, get tested if they have symptoms, seek treatment if they are positive, and use a facemask where and when needed.

“The spread of COVID-19 is still highly likely amongst our community, so we encourage individuals to mask up in large crowds,” Laredo Health Director Dr. Richard Chamberlain said. “Masks are not the only tool we have to protect us nowadays.

For more information about the Healthy Living/Viviendo Mejor program, as well as other sites for classes, please contact Fabiola Guerra, Project Coordinator at the City of Laredo Health Department at (956) 721-4994.

The COVID-19 vaccine is highly effective and available for all individuals five years and older.”

For commencement ceremonies or events with over 1,000 individuals held indoors or more than 5,000 persons in an outdoor event, it is highly encouraged to wear proper face masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Individuals are also highly encouraged to seek a COVID-19 booster if eligible before these events.
