Washington, DC—Today, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar announced that Gateway Community Health Center will receive $1,501,260 through the Health Resources & Services Administration, a subsidiary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The funding will support the Health Center Cluster in Webb and Zapata counties.

“I am very excited to award the Gateway Community Health Center with this federal grant funding,” said Congressman Cuellar, a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee.

“The Gateway Community Health Center provides care to many people in south Texas who otherwise would not have access to primary health care. This funding ensures that the center can continue to run its operations smoothly and effectively while caring for as many people as possible.

I will continue to support our South Texas health centers with opportunities for competitive grants to support our community needs. I want to thank Elmo Lopez for his continued support and service to our community.”

According to HHS, a health center cluster delivers affordable, accessible, quality, and value-based primary health care to millions of people regardless of their ability to pay. Health centers serve 1 in 11 people across the country, and they lead the nation in driving quality improvement and reducing health care costs for America’s taxpayers.

Health centers provide high quality primary care services and support public health priorities such as the opioid crisis, the White House Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America initiative, and the response to COVID-19.
