(Laredo, Texas)-September is designated as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. In observance, Arndt elementary students are conveying messages of support for everyone who is struggling with the affliction. As part of their campaign, students are wearing yellow and gold clothing/ribbons every Friday throughout the month.
Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among U.S. children from birth to age 15. Each year, nearly 16,000 new cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed. “Our students wanted to get involved in the battle against cancer, which has affected some of their peers and families.
Our campus counselor Ms. Ommen helped them organize, and our staff pitched in to help craft the gold hearts and ribbons that symbolize support for all of our cancer warriors,” said Principal Juanita Zepeda.
