LAREDO, Texas – Undocumented individuals continue to attempt to use trains as a form of transportation while ignoring the dangers they pose.
Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to Laredo North Station detected nine individuals attempting to board trains near Port Laredo on the evening of June 9th. Agents responded to the area and apprehended the group without incident.
Early last week, agents detected three individuals walking towards Port Laredo and apprehended the group before they could jump onto a moving train. As agents were apprehending the group, a fourth female undocumented individual was detected attempting to board the moving train. Before agents could reach her, she lost her grip and fell under the train. The train caused severe injuries to her foot. Border Patrol Agent Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) arrived to provide medical attention. Laredo Fire Department Emergency Medical Services transported the female to a local hospital for further medical attention.
Laredo Sector Border Patrol leads the nation in total rescues due to the lifesaving work being done every day by agents in the field. Our EMTs are trained to respond and adapt to any emergency situation and we are extremely proud of the lifesaving work being done by the agents in the field. These life-saving events continue to highlight the dangerous risks that migrants may face while attempting to illegally enter the U.S. and the dedication of the agents to provide aid to those in need.
“Illegally entering the United States is extremely dangerous, and all too often, life threatening. The only safe way to enter the United States is through a designated Port of Entry. Do not trust smugglers, their interest is only in their business model. They will put you in life threatening situations and they will abandon you when your life depends on them,” said Deputy Chief Patrol Agent Carl E. Landrum.
