City of Laredo Proclaims June as PRIDE Month

Laredo, Texas – A historic moment for the City of Laredo, Council Members joined to proclaim the month of June as ‘PRIDE Month’. This is a historical milestone in Laredo, as this month will celebrate diversity, unity, acceptance, tolerance, and understanding and inclusivity in honor of those in the LGBTQIA+ community. The proclamation took place on Thursday, June 10 at City Hall Council Chambers and was hosted by District 8 Council Member, Alyssa Cigarroa. The event welcomed City leaders as well as representatives from Gateway Pride Association, Laredo Health Department, PILLAR Strong, Equality Texas, and more. As part of the event program, several distinguished guests included:
- Jorge Quijano, Gateway Pride Association
- Sister Rosemary Welsh, Mercy Ministries of Laredo
- Mark Nix, Gateway City Pride Association
- Genesis Cardenas, City of Laredo Health Department
- Sabrina Cantu, District 7 Laredo Youth Council
- Martha Ramos, PILLAR Strong
- Armando Lopez, Equality Texas
The proclamation was signed by Mayor Pro-tempore and District 1 Council Member, Rudy Gonzalez, Jr. To commemorate this historic event, Mayor Pro-tempore Gonzalez read the proclamation along with District 2 Council Member, Vidal Rodriguez, District 5 Council Member, Ruben Gutierrez, Jr.,and District 8 Council Member, Alyssa Cigarroa.
