LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry detained a man with an outstanding warrant for indecent liberties with a child out of Alamance County in North Carolina.

“Our frontline officers help to keep our communities safer by apprehending travelers with outstanding warrants for a variety of crimes, including those of a sexual nature that impact children, such as in this case,” said Acting Port Director Eugene Crawford, Laredo Port of Entry.

The fugitive apprehension occurred on Sunday, January 17th, 2021 at the Juarez Lincoln Bridge. A CBP officer processing a bus arriving from Mexico, referred passenger Michael James Denny, a 31 year-old male United States citizen, for a secondary inspection. After escorting the passenger to secondary, subsequent biometric verification through law enforcement databases confirmed that the subject had an outstanding warrant for indecent liberties with a child, a class F felony, pursued by the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina. The warrant was confirmed to be active. CBP officers transported the wanted fugitive to Webb County Jail in Laredo, Texas to await criminal proceedings. Criminal charges are merely allegations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
