(McAllen, Texas)-Beginning today, borrowers 17 years and older at the McAllen Public Library can now take home such popular video game titles as Madden, Sonic, Marvel, Halo, and more. Games are available on multiple formats including PS4, PS5, X-Box One, X-Box Series X and Nintendo Switch.
The new circulating games are rated E–For Everyone and T–For Teens. Video game borrowers must reside in the City of McAllen, be 17 years or older, have an MPL card and provide verification of a current address, and complete an agreement. Only one game per household can be checked out at a time. Games can be checked out for seven days.
“Before COVID, gamers would meet at the Library to play games using our platforms and equipment,” says McAllen Public Library Director Kate Horan. “The pandemic has challenged MPL to provide services at home that patrons are used to accessing at the library.”
Gaming at the library had been a popular program for teens and adults pre-COVID. The ability to borrow games will help to fill that gap.
“This is yet another way that families can engage in a fun activity in the safety of their homes, says Horan.
A $50 lost charge fee will be assessed for lost or damaged games or a $1 a day late charge fee for late returns.
