Laredo, TX (Webb County) – Webb County Sheriff’s Office correctional officers on Wednesday intercepted more than two grams of cocaine, which intended to make its way into the Webb County Jail.

During intake procedures, correctional officers observed Javier Cardenas, 32, nervous as they were preparing to place him on the body scanner. During the body search, officers found a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine weighing 2.4 grams with an estimated street value of $100.00.

Cardenas was initially remanded to the Webb County Jail on charges of possession of controlled substance and was additionally charged with prohibited substance in a correctional facility. Total bond was set at $10,000.

“This interception shows that our correctional officers are highly trained to find drugs, no matter how creative the inmates try to get,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “It also shows that criminals can get very desperate to satisfy their addiction.”
