City Council Approves New Homestead Exemption
LAREDO, Texas—The City Council approved a Homestead Exemption of $30,000 of the appraised value for property owners who qualify for disability insurance benefits under Federal Old Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance Act. Qualified persons will save approximately $190.20 in taxes based on the current tax rate. The exemption will become effective for Tax Year 2020 and will cost the City approximately $201,000 to offer this tax relief to its residents.
Taxpayers who already have a Disability Person (DP) exemption status with the city will automatically receive the savings. Those taxpayers wanting to apply for the exemption, shall file an application with the Webb County Appraisal District for consideration by downloading forms at http://www.webbcad.org/Forms , select the “Homestead Exemptions” form and check the box for “Disabled Person”.
