City of Laredo Implements COVID-19 Color-Coded Alert System

LAREDO, Texas—The City of Laredo has released a new color-coded advisory system to alert the public of the current risk posed by novel coronavirus, the virus that causes COVID-19, in the community. The alert system is based off number of active positive persons in the community. An “active positive” is a person who has been tested positive for novel coronavirus, who is contagious and has not yet recovered from the disease.

Level 1 (Green) – Low Risk: Less than 50 active positives. Residents can resume normal daily activity. The use of facemasks and the practice of good hygiene should be continue to be followed.

Level 2 (Yellow) – Medium Risk: Less than 150 active positives. Residents are asked to be vigilant, practice physical distancing whenever they are outside their home, avoid groups of 10 or more when possible, use facemasks and practice good hygiene.

Level 3 (Orange) – Higher Risk: Less than 250 active positives. Residents should minimize all contact with other persons who are not part of their household, use facemasks and practice good hygiene.

Level 4 (Red) – Highest Risk: More than 250 active positives. Residents are asked to stay home as much as possible, avoid gatherings and groups of people when possible, use facemasks and practice good hygiene.
