LAREDO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers at the Gateway to the Americas Bridge seized various types of narcotics in separate unrelated incidents on Tuesday, Mar. 24, that totaled over $272,000 in street value.

“These narcotic seizures exemplify CBP’s commitment to stop drug traffickers from disrupting our communities,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry.

The first enforcement action occurred after a CBP officer referred a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox for a secondary inspection. Following a canine and non-intrusive imaging system inspection, CBP officers discovered a total of 8 packages containing over 20 pounds of alleged cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine within the vehicle. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $266,213.

Later that afternoon, a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado was referred for inspection. A subsequent canine and non-intrusive imaging system inspection resulted in CBP officers discovering 16 packages containing almost 31 pounds of alleged marijuana. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $6,173.

The two interceptions combined are valued at $272,386.

CBP officers seized the narcotics and the case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
