United High School Senior Attains Semifinalist Status in National Merit Scholarship Program

(Laredo, Texas)-United ISD proudly announces that David Gonzalez, a senior at United High School, has been announced as a Semifinalist in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP). Gonzalez is one of only 16,000 Semifinalists who will have the opportunity to pursue 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than 31 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition.
To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and a high school official must submit a detailed application which includes an academic record along with documentation that corroborates their participation in school and civic activities. The application also requires a description of leadership abilities and honors received by the candidate.
