(Laredo, Texas)-United ISD board members, administrators, teachers, students and community leaders gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of Johnson High school’s 9th grade campus. The 201,346 square foot structure is located at 5511 Saint Luke Blvd., and accommodates 1,200 students and staff. Features include 36 classrooms, 6 science lecture labs, 2 art labs, and a dance studio practice gym. The campus also has a detached FFA building with access to outdoor sports facilities, a state-of-the-art library, and a cafeteria that can accommodate up to 600 occupants at a time.

Security for the campus begins at the main entrance with a guardhouse that screens vehicular and pedestrian entry into the property. Moreover, a security station located at the main entrance screens visitors who request entry into the building. Like all United ISD campuses, the new facility has on-site District police officers and security personnel. Card Reader Access Controls are also employed to optimize safety and security for students and staff. The campus was built with funds approved by voters as per the District’s 2013 Bond Program.

“The opening of Johnson High School’s 9th grade campus completes the District’s long-term objective to build corresponding freshman campuses for all 4 of our high schools. Our constituents have been instrumental in making this long-term project a success – On behalf of our Board, I thank them for their confidence and support”, said Superintendent Roberto J. of Schools.
