(Laredo, Texas)-The District Attorney’s Office has secured a guilty plea in its case against Ricardo and Rodolfo Ramos in connection to two aggravated robberies they committed.
On Tuesday, April 17, 2018, the Laredo Police Department Communication Division received a call of a shooting at the Winners Amusement Center, an eight-liner establishment, located at the 4100 block of San Bernardo Ave. Upon arrival, officers determined that the incident was not a shooting; however, an aggravated robbery had just occurred. Officers made contact with an employee who sustained minor injuries on his head and also with the manager of the establishment who was held at gunpoint.
The employee stated that as he was walking around the slot machines, two masked men entered the establishment with handguns. One of the male subjects approached the employee and asked him where the money was.
After the employee stayed quiet, the suspect struck him on the head with the handgun causing pieces of the gun to shatter onto the floor. The other male suspect stayed by the door with his handgun pointed toward the customers. The same male subject who assaulted the employee approached the back office and held the handgun to the manager’s abdomen. He forced his way into the office and stole money from the cash register. The two men then ran outside and met a third male who acted as the lookout. The three suspects then fled on foot.
On April 22, 2018, in a similar incident, police were notified of an armed robbery in progress at the Big Bear Amusement located on the 300 block of Market St. Upon arrival, officers learned that three masked male subjects were armed with handguns, multiple employees of the establishment had been struck on the head with the guns, and money was stolen from the establishment. Soon after the robbery, officers were notified that a U.S. Border Patrol agent encountered the offenders in a white in color Dodge pick-up truck parked a block away; however, the suspects were able to get away.
After a thorough investigation, two of the male subjects were identified as brothers Ricardo Ramos, 28, and Rodolfo Ramos, 24. The brothers were placed under arrest and charged with two counts of Aggravated Robbery, a first-degree felony in the State of Texas.
Ricardo Ramos, a repeat offender, plead guilty before the 111th District Court Judge Monica Notzon to one count of aggravated robbery. Ricardo was sentenced to 20 years to serve. Rodolfo Ramos, a convicted felon of robbery, also plead guilty to one count of aggravated robbery and was sentenced to 14 years to serve. Both defendants will begin serving their sentences immediately at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Institution Division.
Assistant District Attorney Estrella Ramirez prosecuted the case for the State.
