Man Sentenced to 40 years for Two Robberies

 (Laredo, Texas)The District Attorney’s Office has secured a guilty plea in its case against Nicolas Garcia, 28, in connection to two robberies he committed.

On September 3, 2018, the Laredo Police Department Communication Division received a call of a robbery that had just occurred outside of the International Bank of Commerce located on the 1000 street of Matamoros. Upon arrival, an LPD officer was met with the victim who stated that he was assaulted by a male subject while he was on his way to the bank from his place of employment to deposit money. The victim also stated that the suspect took a bank bag with over $2,000 worth of deposit money as he struggled to gain control of the bag. The suspect, which was last seen running south bound on Flores Ave., was described as having visible tattoos on both arms and wearing dark shorts and a black muscle shirt.

After a thorough investigation, the male subject was identified as Nicolas Garcia through video surveillance of nearby businesses. On September 5, 2018, Garcia was placed under arrest and charged with Aggravated Robbery, a first-degree felony in the State of Texas.

In a similar incident on January 29, 2019, Laredo police responded to a call on the 100 block of Kearney St. where a man stated that he had been assaulted in the face by a man he had previously seen at a nearby park. The victim described the suspect as having tattoos on his face and arms wearing a blue in color muscle shirt. After a short investigation, officers were able to identify the suspect as Nicolas Garcia. He was arrested and charged with robbery, a second-degree felony in the State of Texas.

Nicolas Garcia, a repeat offender, plead guilty before the 111th District Court Judge Monica Notzon to Robbery for each case. During his sentencing, Garcia also plead true to a felony enhancement paragraph, which increased his range of punishment of Robbery to 15 to life. Garcia was sentenced to 40 years to serve for each case. The sentences will run concurrently. Garcia will begin his serving his sentence immediately at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Institution Division.

Assistant District Attorney Estrella Ramirez prosecuted the case for the State.
