United ISD Announces Bilingual Director

(Laredo, Texas)-United Independent School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent Roberto J. Santos are pleased to announce Zaida Gonzalez as the new Director of Bilingual Education/ESL/Dual and Foreign Language Program.
Zaida Gonzalez is an eighteen year veteran educator of United ISD with vast experience working both at the campus and district level. She is a proud graduate of Texas A&M International University where she received both a Bachelors in Early Childhood Education and Masters Degree in School Administration.
For the past five years she has served the District as Principal of Trautmann Elementary School. Prior to working at Trautmann, Gonzalez worked at Cuellar Elementary as a Fourth Grade Teacher, a Reading First Literacy Coach at Juarez-Lincoln Elementary, Special Education Instructional Coordinator, and as Assistant Principal at Malakoff Elementary.
Gonzalez’s passion for learning has earned her a number of accolades and has garnered the respect of her peers who admire her work ethic and dedication. During her tenure with the district Gonzalez most recently was announced as H-E-B’s Elementary Principal of the Year. “As we proceeded through a rigorous interview process it quickly became evident Mrs. Gonzalez was the best candidate to succeed Dr. Carmen Pompa,” stated Roberto J. Santos, Superintendent for United ISD.
As the Director for of the Bilingual/ESL/Dual Language/Foreign Language Program, Gonzalez will continue to: implement procedures and coordinate the process to identify Bilingual/ESL/Dual Language/Foreign Language students at all grade levels; assist with the development and revision of Bilingual/ESL/Dual Language/Foreign Language curriculum; and develop and provide bilingual students with appropriate course work through curriculum modification and acceleration, as well as, other administrative functions.
Gonzalez will assume her newly appointed position in August 2018.
