As the Human Rights Campaign has noted: “Pride events are held nationwide in cities large and small and are often the only occasion to be out and proud in one’s community. Pride festivals and parades are a celebration of the progress the LGBTQ community has made, but also a time to recognize the distance left to achieve full equality.”
