(Laredo, Texas)-One student’s vision to leave Longhorns with a symbol they can take pride in for years to come, came to fruition when community members came together to provide the school with a landmark students could enjoy for years to come.
Freshman Class President Andrea Casanova presented their class sponsor, Letty Moncivais, with an idea she thought would give future students something to feel the pride and honor the Longhorn of the Longhorn tradition that has meant so much to past, current, and future students. The idea was to leave the school with a statute similar to the one at the main campus. Casanova along fellow class officers Tina Trevino, Sabrina Lopez, Victoria Salgado and Julie De La Cruz they began to make this vision a reality.
With the help and generous support of the community the students were able to purchase a Longhorn statute that now sits at the entrance of the school.
The event captivated the attention of all those in attendance. Students, teachers, and guests were treated to a wonderful ceremony so poignantly put together by the campus staff and administration at United High School. Every detail was beautifully thought out and wonderfully executed.
“The Longhorn embodies the attributes of many that came before you and to now have something to start them off on their journey is great,” stated Alberto Aleman, United High School Principal. “Future students who walk these halls will see it and know that they too are a part of a legacy,” he continued.
