(Laredo, Texas)-Twenty-one students from Senator Judith Zaffirini Elementary School (ZES) are now part of the prestigious National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS). In a ceremony hosted by ZES, both students and parents were enlightened by honorary guest speaker, Texas State Senator, Judith Zaffirini. Senator Zaffirini recited words of encouragement and self-motivation as she shared personal stories of when she was in grade school.
David Gonzalez, a fifth grade student and NEHS President of ZES addressed the inductees by interpreting the meaning of the four pillars that make up the foundation of NEHS which are Service, Scholarship, Character and Leadership. Those as mentioned are determined through student activities, volunteering, and teacher evaluations.
The newly inducted NEHS students brought the ceremony to a close by reciting a pledge that promises to uphold their value system. “We are very proud of our students who now form part of an organization that will instill valuable life lessons, and I am very thankful to Senator Judith Zaffirini who took time out of her schedule to encourage our students with words of wisdom,” said Claudia Y. Benavides, Principal of Zaffirini Elementary.
