McAllen, TX– Governor Greg Abbott announced recently that he appointed Rigo Villarreal to the Texas Facilities Commission for a term set to expire on January 31, 2023.  The commission manages state government buildings and handles the sale of surplus property, including property donated to the state by federal programs.

“It’s an honor and privilege to be appointed by Governor Abbott.  I would like just like to say that I’m humbled by his trust and that I greatly appreciate the appointment to this position,” said Rigo Villarreal.  “I knew I wanted to do public service for our community but, my community just grew about the size of Texas.”

Villarreal is the Superintendent of Bridges for the City of McAllen.  He is a board member of the Rio Grande Valley Chamber of Commerce, McAllen Chamber of Commerce and the Border Trade Alliance Executive Board and a member of the Texas Transportation Commission Border Trade Advisory Committee.  Additionally, he is a former member of the Freight Advisory Committee and the Panama Canal Stakeholder Working Group for the Texas Department of Transportation.

“We are proud of Rigo Villarreal’s hard work here in McAllen and appreciate that Governor Abbott noticed his hard work ethic too,” said Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E., McAllen city manager.  He added, “We know he’ll do a great job for the State of Texas.”

Villarreal received a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas – Pan American.
