(Laredo, Texas)-The BBVA Compass Foundation brought its 6th annual Project Blue Elf initiative to Perez Elementary School. This year, the program surprised and delighted 248 kindergarten, first and second-grade students. After a reading of The Gingerbread Man,BBVA Compass Bank elves helped students decorate holiday cookies and gave each one a toy. In addition, each child’s parent will receive a $25.00 voucher to open a savings account for their youngster.
Project Blue Elf is one component of a seasonal initiative that integrates donations from BBVA Compass Foundation with local bank volunteer activities. The holiday project has reached over 20,000 students and 122 schools across the country with over 2000 employee volunteers since the program’s inception six years ago.
Perez Elementary Principal Salud Claudia Hernandez said that she was grateful to have BBVA Compass as a community partner. “Many of our students come from economically challenged households. That makes holiday celebrations like this very special for our students. I thank BBVA Compass Bank and the their team of blue elves for the time they took to make our students happy”, she concluded.
