(Laredo, Texas)-The Chamber Orchestra of Laredo will perform its Fall Concert on Wednesday, November 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Center for the Fine & Performing Arts’ Recital Hall.
The concert is free and open to the public.
This concert is the final semester event for student Orchestra members, who studied music over four different centuries and countries this semester.
“People are familiar with names like Bach and Handel,” said Brendan Townsend, director of Orchestras, “this time, we are exploring lesser-known contemporaries of these masters.”
Townsend spoke about finding the Zipoliana Suite in which keyboard works by Franco Zipoli – an Italian priest who spent most of his life as a missionary in Argentina and Chile – are transcribed for strings.
“It gives one a whole new way of looking at music of the Baroque era,” said violinist Adrian Martínez.
Additional works on the program include “The Hollow Men” by Vincent Persichetti for Trumpet and Strings, and a unique piece written for Townsend by a friend, Marian Ingoldsby, while both were in college. Dr. Oswaldo Zapata will be the trumpet soloist with the Orchestra.
The richly challenging string music of Gustav Holst and Mozart rounds out the program.
