Trautmann Middle School Honors Band Tops in National Wind Band Projects

(Laredo, Texas)-The Foundation for Music Education announced that the Trautmann Middle School (TMS),Honors Band, directed by Jorge Luis Garcia, has been selected as a National Winner in the 2017 Mark of Excellence/National Wind Band Honors Project.
The Mark of Excellence consists of the National Wind Band Honors, National Choral Honors, National Orchestra Honors, National Jazz Honors, and National Percussion Ensemble Honors.
It is a competition, entered by recordings, in which the top quarter are selected as National Winners, and the second quarter receive Commended Honors. This year, a record setting 278 high school and middle school musical ensembles from 38 states competed in the project.
“The Trautmann band is a wonderful example of musical achievement, and is a credit to your school district” said Alan Hanna, Executive Director of the Foundation for Music Education. TMS Band Director Jorge Luis Garcia said that winning the award was a very humbling experience for everyone involved. “This award reflects all of the hard work and true team effort that came from our superbly talented group of young musicians”, he concluded.
