(Laredo, Texas)-The District Attorney’s Office has secured a guilty plea in its case against Enrique Rico Jr. for his role as the getaway driver in a robbery case.

On June 3, 2014, Laredo Police Department Communication Center received a call from a woman who stated someone had just robbed her place of employment, Cricket Communication located on the 2000 block of Santa Ursula, at gunpoint. The employees stated to responding officers that a male subject went into the store, pointed a BB gun at them and demanded money. The subject told them if they didn’t get the money, he would kill them and proceeded to jump over the counter where the cash register was located. He took between $4,000 to $4,500 in a cash drawer and ran out. Video surveillance from the store revealed a white Nissan Maxima was used as the getaway vehicle for the robbery. After further investigation, Enrique Rico was detained for questioning after evidence revealed he was the driver of the Nissan Maxima. Rico explained to detectives his role in the robbery. He was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, in the State of Texas.

Enrique Rico Jr. plead guilty to a lesser included offense of robbery, a second-degree felony, before the 341st District Court Judge Beckie Palomo. A second-degree felony carries a punishment range of incarceration of two to 20 years. Rico will serve 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Institution Division.

Assistant District Attorney Francisco Rodriguez prosecuted the case for the State.
