United ISD Names New Director for Special Education Department

LAREDO, TEXAS – The United Independent School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent Roberto J. Santos are pleased to announce Claudia C. Dovalina-Guzman as the new director of the District’s Special Education Department.
Dovalina-Guzman is currently the principal at Gutierrez Elementary School, where she has been since 2005. She previously served as the assistant principal at United D. D. Hachar in Rio Bravo. Prior to this, she was an Educational Diagnostician at J.W. Nixon High School and was a Special Education Teacher at Memorial Middle School and Martin High School with Laredo ISD.
“Ms. Dovalina-Guzman is passionate about the success of our students and will dedicate her efforts to see that every child reaches their fullest potential,” said United ISD Superintendent Roberto J. Santos. “As a director, her goal is to improve and enrich the lives and future of our students,” added Santos.
Dovalina-Guzman obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Texas in San Antonio. She received her certification in Special Education in 1994. She later obtained her Master’s in Educational Diagnostics from Texas A&M International University in 1997 and then obtained her principal certification in 2002.
“It is with great pride and excitement that I take on this new challenge,“ said Dovalina-Guzman. “I would like to thank all my staff members, students, parents, and community members from Gutierrez Elementary School for their support throughout the years. I look forward to this new opportunity and will continue to encourage and promote student achievement.”
Dovalina-Guzman will lead the Special Education Department along with Executive Director of Special Education Cynthia M. Ramirez.
