(Laredo, Texas)-State Representative Richard Peña Raymond held a press conference at the UISD Boardroom to announce that he will introduce a bill during the upcoming Special Legislative Session of the Texas Legislature providing Texas Public School Teachers with a $1000 annual pay raise. Rep.Raymond was joined by UISD Trustees Juan Robert Ramirez, Javier Montemayor Jr., Superintendent Roberto J. Santos, and teachers from UISD and LISD for the big announcement.
Rep. Raymond first introduced the bill during the Regular Session earlier this year, and Texas Governor Greg Abbott has indicated that he will include it on the list of the bills to be considered during the next Special Session, which begins on July 18. “As the son of a school teacher, I know how important teachers they are to improving the future of Laredo and the entire state of Texas, and I believe this raise is long overdue. I’m very pleased Governor Abbott agrees with me,” said Rep. Raymond. I hope this will encourage more people to get into the teaching profession, because we still have a teacher shortage in many of our Texas schools”, he concluded.
