LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized a significant amount of marijuana with an estimated street value of more than $737,000 at World Trade Bridge in one enforcement action.

“CBP employs numerous layers of enforcement and our officers will go above and beyond to keep these illicit drugs from entering our country and affecting our community,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “I congratulate the officers in carrying out the CBP mission and protecting the public from illegal narcotics.”

The seizure occurred on Tuesday, March 28, when a CBP officer referred a 2007 International tractor hauling a 2004 utility trailer laden with a shipment of Styrofoam plates for a secondary examination. A non-intrusive, canine, and physical inspection by CBP officers resulted in the discovery of 150 packages allegedly containing 3,688 pounds of marijuana. The marijuana carries an estimated street value of $737,570

CBP officers seized the narcotics and trailer. The case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
