United ISD’s 4th Annual Spelling Bee Winners

(Laredo, Texas)-On February 3rd, United ISD held its 4th Annual Spelling Bee for students in grades 3-8 at the SAC Auditorium. Thirty six (36) contestants representing United ISD elementary and middle schools competed on stage in front of an audience comprised of friends, family, and District staff. All students in the District spelling bee qualified for the competition by winning first place at their campus spelling bees.

After nineteen intense rounds, Emmanuel Rimocal, a 4th grader at Kennedy-Zapata Elementary, eased into a 1st place ranking. Moreover, Rimocal placed third at his first Spelling Bee competition in 2016. Other winners included Kiran Malik, an 8th grader at United Middle School. Malik took the 2nd place trophy. Third place winner Karlos Tamez also emerged as a victor. Tamez is an 8th grader who attends Clark Middle School.

All 36 contestants from United ISD’s 4th Annual Spelling Bee will enter the City-Wide Spelling Bee scheduled for March 25, 2017 at TAMIU. Their competitors will include students from Laredo ISD and area private schools.
