BRONCOS DROP SERIES OPENER AGAINST THUNDER

August 24, 2009-Robstown, TX-The Laredo Broncos’ offense struggled for the third straight night, as they lost to the Coastal Bend Thunder by a score of 9-1 at Fairgrounds Field, on Monday.

The Thunder started the scoring in the first.  Alex Fernandez hit an rbi double that scored Amadeo Zazueta.  Carlos Rodriguez then hit a two run home run, his sixth of the season.  That made the score 3-0 in favor of Coastal Bend.

The Thunder added on to their lead in the third.  With runners on the corners and no one out, Bronco’s starter Edgar Soto threw a wild pitch that allowed Manny Mejia to score.  Bryan Vickers followed with a two run home run, his ninth of the season.  That made the score 6-0.

The Broncos scored for the first time in the sixth inning.  With two outs Jaime Morales singled into right field.  Mario Mendez then followed with an rbi triple that scored Morales.  That made the score 6-1.

The Broncos’s starter Edgar Soto was taken out of the game with one out in the sixth.  Carlos Alvarez came in and gave up a two run double to Manny Mejia.  The score was now 8-1. 

Soto lasted five and a third innings for the Broncos.  He gave up eight runs, on seven hits, walked four, and struck out four.

The Thunder extended their lead in the seventh against the Broncos’ Julio Pinto.  Bryan Vickers hit a solo home run, his second of the game and 10th of the season.  That made the score 9-1.

Franklyn Gracesqui came in for the Broncos and pitched a scoreless eighth, as they trailed by eight heading to the ninth inning.

Toro Trevino came in looking for his first complete game of the season.  Trevino pitched a scoreless ninth, as the Broncos lost by a score of 9-1.

The Broncos scored 1 run on 6 hits and had 3 errors while the Thunder scored 9 runs on 9 hits and had 2 errors.

The Broncos are now 22-51 on the season while the Thunder are 33-39. The Broncos will next be in action Tuesday August 25th, as they play game two of a four game series against the Coastal Bend Thunder in Robstown at 7:05.
