BRONCOS LOSE SERIES IN EDINBURG

August 23, 2009-Edinburg, TX-The Laredo Broncos offense disappeared for the second straight night, as they lost to the Edinburg Roadrunners by a score of 3-1 at Edinburg Baseball Stadium, on Sunday.

The Broncos grabbed the early lead in the second.  Mario Mendez reached on a fielder’s choice, with one out.  Jaime Morales then flew out to the right fielder Hunter Owen.  Owen tried to double off Mendez at first but the throw was wild and Mendez went to second.  Juan Senreiso then came to the plate and hit an rbi single the scored Mendez.  That gave Laredo the 1-0 lead.

The Roadrunners jumped on the scoreboard in the fourth inning.  Robert Matlock knocked in Hector Garanzuay with a single.  Then late in the inning with the bases loaded, Cameron McGuire hit a two run single that scored Hunter Owen and Matlock.  That made the score 3-1 in favor of Edinburg.

Broncos’ starter Luis Arroyo pitched well in his eight innings of work.  He gave up three runs, on eight hits, walked two, and struck out three.  Laredo still trailed by two heading to the ninth.

Kelly Casares came out for the Roadrunners looking to close out the game.  He shut down Laredo in the ninth, as the Broncos lost by a score of 3-1.

The Broncos scored 1 run on 2 hits and had 1 error while the Roadrunners scored 3 runs on 8 hits and had 1 error.

The Broncos are now 22-50 on the season while the Roadrunners are 41-31.  The Broncos will next be in action Monday August 24th, as they open up a four game series against the Coastal Bend Thunder in Robstown at 7:05.  You can listen to that game and all 80 Broncos games this year on our website www.laredobroncos.com through our partners at www.sportsujuice.com.
