LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at World Trade Bridge discovered $414,000 worth in marijuana in a shipment of fresh produce.

“This seizure was an excellent interception from our CBP officers,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. The officer’s attention to detail and utilization of technology led to the discovery of this unique concealment method.”

The seizure occurred on Tuesday, Dec. 29, when a CBP officer referred a tractor trailer hauling a commercial shipment of broccoli for a non-intrusive inspection.  A canine and non-intrusive inspection by CBP officers resulted in the discovery of 1,852 packages allegedly containing 2,072 pounds of marijuana hidden within the shipment. The marijuana carries an estimated street value of $414,464.

CBP officers seized the narcotics. CBP officers turned the case over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
