Laredo, TX – The Laredo Lemurs’ (22-18) starting pitcher Scott Garner set the pace by working quickly and hitting his spots as he held down the Joplin Blasters (23-14) and the Lemurs picked up the 2-1 victory on Thursday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.

Garner (5-2) was impressive from the start as he worked out of trouble in the first and second inning before allowing the lone run to the Blasters in the third.  Garner ended the night throwing seven innings, giving up one unearned run on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts to earn the win for the Lemurs.

Lemurs’ reliever Ryan Beckman pitched the last two innings of the game and was impressive picking up where Garner left off.  Beckman posted three strikeouts while retiring the side in order both times.

The Lemurs’ offense came in the first inning with both D’Vontrey Richardson and Abel Nieves crossing the plate.  Kevin Taylor reached on an error to score Richardson and Denis Phipps singled to bring Nieves home from third base.  The two runs would hold up tonight with the Lemurs’ stellar pitching.

Jake Meiers (1-2) did a nice job on the mound for the Blasters in a losing effort.  Meiers threw six complete innings, giving up two runs on six hits with no walks and one strikeout while taking the loss.

The Lemurs now hit the road for a seven-game trip that will start in Grand Prairie on Friday night.  The Lemurs will play three in Grand Prairie and four against the Wichita Wingnuts before coming home to face the Amarillo ThunderHeads.
