Tight Game Goes Lemurs’ Way in Eighth

Laredo, TX – The Laredo Lemurs (18-15) put together a two-run rally in the bottom of the eighth to beat the Grand Prairie AirHogs (12-20) 2-0 Thursday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
The Lemurs and the AirHogs were in a pitchers’ duel until the AirHogs lifted their starter, Bennet Whitemore, for reliever Colin Allen. Allen gave up a base hits to Jeudy Valdez and Abel Nieves to start the eighth. With runners at the corners Kevin Taylor hit a sac fly to drive in Valdez from third. Then, with two outs Silverio singled to drive in Nieves from third to make it 2-0.
Colin Allen (0-1) takes the loss for the AirHogs as he went one inning, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out one.
AirHogs starter Bennet Whitmore (1-3) pitched well, going seven strong innings against Laredo while giving up four hits with only two walks and eight punch outs.
Lemurs’ starter Greg Holle (2-4) was also impressive through five innings of work, giving up six hits, only one walk and six strikeouts on the night.
John Brebbia (1-1) earned the win for the Laredo as he closed out the eighth by getting a strikeout and retiring the side in order in the top of the ninth.
The shutout was the fourth thrown by Lemurs pitchers this season. The Lemurs will take on the AirHogs tomorrow night at 7:30pm at Uni-Trade Stadium in the second game of a four game series.
