Laredo, TX – Laredo Lemurs (5-7) newcomer Juan Silverio led the hit brigade in his debut, going four for five with a home run, a double, two singles, and three RBI’s, just falling a triple short of the cycle, as the Lemurs grabbed a 9-5 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs (4-8) on Tuesday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
Lemurs’ backup catcher Kevin Taylor had a hot night at the plate as well, as he put up three hits, scored three runs, and walked twice to reach base in all five at-bats.
Others adding to the Lemurs offense tonight included Denis Phipps who had two hits and two RBI’s. First baseman Tony Delmonico drove in three runs with two sac-flies and he also got hit by a pitch with the bases load to bring one home.
Overall the Lemurs offense produced 14 hits and scored 9 runs on the night. Over the last two nights against the Lincoln Saltdogs the Lemurs have picked up 31 hits and scored 21 runs.
The Lemurs relief core was special tonight as well as they did not allow run over 5.1 innings of work. The first guy out of the pen for Lemurs was Henry Garcia. He helped starter Matt Loosen out of a jam in the top of the fifth as he picked up the third out of the inning by getting Mike Gilmartin to fly out to left. Garcia (1-1) would earn his first win on the season for his efforts.
Reliever Ryan Beckman stayed on pace as he set down three in a row. Beckman is holding tight to his 0.00 ERA through seven appearances on the mound. B.J. Hyatt, Luis Pollorena, and John Brebbia also held the Saltdogs scoreless while on the hill tonight for the Lemurs.
The Lemurs will wrap up the series against the Saltdogs tomorrow night at 7:30 pm, at Uni-Trade Stadium. The Lemurs will be going for their first sweep of the 2015 season.
