BRONCOS LOSE MARATHON GAME TO WHITEWINGS

August 16, 2009-Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos and Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings played 16 innings, and the WhiteWings took home the victory by a score of 7-3 at Veterans Field, on Sunday.
The Broncos started the scoring early in the first inning. Luis Ugueto led off with a walk and then went to second on a single by Juan Senreiso. After a fly out moved Ugueto to third, Argelis Nunez hit an rbi single. That gave Laredo the 1-0 lead.
The WhiteWings started their scoring in the second. Juan Cabera hit an rbi single that scored Juan Melo. The next batter Sandy DeLeon singled and the ball got by left fielder Juan Senreiso, which allowed Melo to score from first. DeLeon ended up on second after the play, and scored on a single Agustin Septimo. That made the score 3-1.
The Broncos got closer in the fourth. With two outs, both Andres Santos and Jaime Morales reached on two errors by the shortstop Joaquin Rodriguez. Derek Beckman then reached on an error by second baseman Augstin Septimo that allowed Santos the score. The score was now 3-2.
Gustavo Vasquez, the starter for the Broncos, was taken out after seven solid innings of work. He gave up three runs, two of which were earned, on six hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out two. Jason Herman came into the game for Laredo still down by one.
The Broncos came back in the eighth inning. Mario Mendez singled to start off the inning. Two wild pitches moved him to third base with one out. Luany Sanchez then knocked him in with an rbi single. That tied the score at three.
Neither team did any damage in the ninth, as the Broncos headed to extra innings for the third straight game.
The WhiteWings loaded the bases with no one out in the top of the 11th. Broncos closer Franklyn Gracesqui got out of the jam by striking out Brian Nichols and getting Juan Melo to hit into a double play. The game remained tied at three.
The Broncos threatened in their half of the 11th. Argelis Nunez doubled to start off the inning, and then was taken out for a pinch runner in Robert Moron. However, WhiteWings reliever Juan Diaz pitched out of the jam.
The game remained scoreless all the way till the top of the 16th. Luany Sanchez who started the game at catcher was in his fourth inning of work. With one out Jose Torres hit a grand slam, his first of the season. That gave Rio Grande Valley the 7-3 lead.
The Broncos did not do any damage in their half of the 16th, as they lost their 11th consecutive game by a score of 7-3.
The Broncos scored 3 runs on 11 hits and had 1 error while the WhiteWings scored 7 runs on 11 hits and had 6 errors.
The Broncos are now 21-44 on the season while the WhiteWings are 30-35. The Broncos will next be in action Monday August 17th, as they play game two of a four game series against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings in Laredo.
