The Office of the District Attorney reports the guilty verdict for Juan Felipe Flores, 41, who was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
On March 10, 2014, a Laredo Police officer noticed Flores drive into a parking lot on the 2000 block of E. Saunders Street. Flores was met by a male subject, who approached the passenger’s seat and handed him something while shaking his hand. The officers had probable cause that a drug transaction had taken place and ordered another unit to stop Flores’ vehicle. Once stopped, the female passenger surrendered the drugs to the officer. Both individuals were placed under arrest. Flores was charged with possession of a controlled substance, a state jail felony in the state of Texas.
The trial, which took place before 406th District Court Judge Oscar J. Hale Jr. was heard by a jury over the course of two days, who handed down their guilty verdict after two hours of deliberation. The passenger’s case is filed and is still pending in court.
Assistant District Attorneys Paul Thomson, Francisco Mendoza and Rodolfo Morales prosecuted the case for the State.
