Sheriff’s Deputies arrest Bexar County murder suspect

Laredo, TX (Webb County) – A man wanted for murder is behind bars Thursday afternoon following a joint effort with the Webb County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals.
The suspect, Rafael Hernandez, 41, had been avoiding authorities for what is believed to be a cold case in Bexar County from 2011.The Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals received information indicating Hernandez was hiding out across the border in Nuevo Laredo. That’s when the Sheriff’s investigators made contact with Mexican authorities who were able to track down the suspect, a U.S. citizen, and turn him over to U.S. authorities. Thursday afternoon the Sheriff’s Office Warrants division met at the bridge to arrest Hernandez.
He faces charges for Murder and two counts of Aggravated Assault, Family Violence. Hernandez will remain at the Webb County Jail, pending extradition to Bexar County.
“Working in collaboration with other law enforcement authorities allowed us to assist in making sure this suspect is brought to justice,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar.
