Listeriosis is a bacterial infection caused by eating food contaminated with Listeria. For many there maybe no major symptoms. When symptoms do appear, they may include: fever, muscle aches, nausea or diarrhea. Those most at risk of illness are adults, the elderly, pregnant women in their third trimester, infants and those with underlying health conditions. Listeria is a treatable condition by a physician. The CLHD does want to remind the public that they should always exercise good hygiene and good food management when handling and cooking foods, fruits and vegetables.
