Laredo, TX (Webb County)A man arrested for reportedly furnishing alcohol to a minor is now facing additional charges after he intended to smuggle contraband into the Webb County Jail Sunday evening.

Humberto Rivera, 23, was initially arrested for furnishing alcohol to a minor and was taken into custody. During intake procedures, Correctional Officers noticed a bulge in front of his boxers. Authorities then advised that Rivera was not cooperating, and upon further inspection, it was determined the bulge was a clear plastic baggie filled with dozens of white pills. A total of 98 Xanax pills were found in his possession.

Rivera is now facing additional charges for Prohibited Substance in a Correctional Facility. He remains without bond at the Webb County Jail.

“We want to make it clear that if an inmate attempts to bring in drugs to our jail, they will be caught,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “It does not matter where they attempt to hide it, our deputies and correctional officers are trained to intercept narcotics that inmates may be attempting to bring in.”

This is the second time Rivera faces similar charges. In 2013, he was also charged with the same offense as he intended to smuggle narcotics into the Webb County Jail.
